日本語: 一勇齋國芳画「東海道五十三對」より『桑名 舩のり徳藏の傳』、小嶋屋重兵衛版、大判錦絵 “桑名屋徳藏ハ 無双の舩のり也 大晦日にハ舩を出さぬ法也けるニ ある年大晦日ニ舩を出し 沖合にて俄に大風大波立て 大山の如き大坊主舩の先へ出ける 徳藏少しも恐れずかちを取り行ニ くだんの化物 いかに徳藏こハくはなきやと尋るに 徳藏びくともせず 渡世より外にこハきものハなしと大おんニよハゝりけれハ かの化物此一言ニおそれけん 雪霜のごとくきえうせ 波風なく本の如くニ舩ハはしりしとなん 徳藏が大たんのほと これにてしるべし“ 桑名屋徳蔵の話を桑名の地名にかけて描いたもの。海坊主に臆することのない船乗り徳蔵の錦絵。 English: The Sea Monk (Umibozu) is a sea monster with a smooth round head, like the shaven head of a Buddhist monk. This woodblock print illustrates the story of the sailor Kuwanaya Tokuzo, who decides to go to sea on the last day of the year, which other sailors consider unlucky. A violent storm breaks out, and the Umi Bozu appears. In a ghastly voice the apparition demands, "Name the most horrible thing you know!" Tokuzo yells back, "My profession is the most horrible thing I know!" The monster is apparently satisfied with this answer and disappears along with the storm.
