Mali lav (lat. Leo Minor) je sazvežđe severne hemisfere i jedno od 88 savremenih sazvežđa. Definisao ga je poljski astronom Johanes Hevelije u 1687. godine, od slabih zvezda između Velikog medveda i Lava.[1]
Zvezde[uredi | uredi izvor]
Najsjajnija zvezda je 46 Malog lava, jedina slučaj da zvezda koja je najsjajnija u nekom sazvežđu nema Bajerovu oznaku. 46 Malog lava se nalazi na 98 svetlosnih godina od Sunca, po veličini između subdžina i džina, K spektralne klase.
Beta Malog lava je binarna zvezda čija je primarna komponenta džin G klase a pratilac patuljak F klase.
20 Malog lava je još jedna dvojna zvezda, na svega 14,9 parseka od Sunca.
Objekti dubokog neba[uredi | uredi izvor]
Najvidljiviji objekat dubokog neba je NGC 3003, spiralna galaksija Volf-Rajeovog tipa asimetričnih krakova koji vidimo sa strane. Od Sunca je udaljena oko 80 miliona svetlosnih godina.
U Malom lavu se nalazi zanimljiv par koga čine IC 2497 i Hanin objekt. IC 2497 je spiralna galaksija u čijoj blizini je vidljiv objekt nedefinisanog porekla sa velikom rupom u sredini, nazvan po Hani van Erkel koja ga je otkrila. Hanin objekt je prečnika oko 16 000 svetlosnih godina (približno kao Mlečni put), a od Sunca je udaljen oko 700 000 000 svetlosnih godina, kao i IC 2497.

Klasični astronomi Aratus i Ptolomej su primetili da je oblast sadašnjeg Malog Lava nedefinisana i da ne sadrži nikakve karakteristične obrasce. Ptolomej je klasifikovao zvezde u ovoj oblasti kao amorphōtoi (ne pripadaju konstelaciji) u sazvežđu Lava.[2]
