Ubijen u borbi
Ubijen u borbi (engl. Killed in action, KIA) je izraz u vojnoj terminologiji za one borce koji su ubijeni od strane neprijateljskih snaga.[1] Prema tvrđenju Ministarstva odbrane Sjedinjenih Američkih Država, da bi žrtve bile svrstane u ovu kategoriji, one ne moraju prethodno da pucaju na neprijatelje, već da budu ubijene u toku njihovog napada. Među ubijene u borbi spadaju i oni koji su nastradali od strane saveznika, ali samo ukoliko to nije ubistvo iz nehata.[2][3] Takođe, u istu grupu spadaju sve žrtve bez obzira na to da li se radi o borcima iz kopnene, vazdušne ili pomorske vojske.
Pored imena žrtava stavlja se znak † (bodež), kako bi se naznačila kategorija stradalih u dokumentima o određenom ratnom događaju.
U istu kategoriju svrstavaju se i preminuli od rana zadobijenih na bojnom polju, kako bi se uvrstili i oni koji su preživeli do dobijanja medicinskog tretmana, ali su na kraju podlegli povredama.[4]
Najverovatnije ubijeni u borbi (engl. presumed killed in action) potkategorija je ubijenih u borbi u koju spadaju svi oni koji su prvobitno bili svrstani među nestale u borbi, ali pošto posle dužeg vremena nisu pronađeni, šansa da su preživeli drastično opada.[5]
NATO definicija[uredi | uredi izvor]
Prema definiciji NATO-a, u ovu kategoriju spadaju „svi oni koji su ubijeni na bojištu[6][7] ili čija je smrt prouzrokovana ranama ili drugim povredama zadobijenim na istom, a da pritom nisu preživeli do dobijanja medicinske pomoći”.[8]
