Britanska ostrva (engl. British Isles, Oileáin na Breataine), skup ostrva uz severozapadnu obalu Evrope koja obuhvataju Veliku Britaniju (Engleska, Škotska i Vels), Irsku (Severna Irska i Republika Irska), Ostrvo Men i nekoliko hiljada manjih susednih ostrva.[8] U dokumentima vlade Republike Irske ponekad se smatra da Republika Irska nije deo Britanskih ostrva (ali je češće mišljenje da jeste).[9]
Britanska ostrva su geografski i ekološki termin, koji se, uopšteno govoreći, odnosi na čitav arhipelag od Šetlandskih ostrva na severu do ostrva Sili na jugu, te od ostrva Blasket na zapadu do Istočne Anglije na istoku. Britanska ostrva broje više od 6.000 ostrva ukupne kopnene površine 315.134 km².
Oko prideva 'britanski' ima dosta nesuglasica. Iako u svojoj originalnoj upotrebi pridev implicira vezu sa čitavim arhipelagom uz severozapadnu obalu Evrope (uključujući Irsku), u novije vreme, pri upotrebi prideva „britanski“ ne podrazumeva se Republika Irska. 'Britanski' u geografskom smislu odražava 'tradicionalnu' upotrebu za arhipelag u celini (tj. uključujući Republiku Irsku). Termin Britanska ostrva može uvrediti one koji ga interpretiraju politički zbog impliciranja neprekidnog suvereniteta Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva nad Republikom Irskom ili činjenice da je Republika Irska u nekom smislu politički povezana sa Ujedinjenim Kraljevstvom. Stoga se u političkoj upotrebi pridev „britanski“ koristi samo za Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo.

According to the UNEP, the Channel Islands have a land area of , the Republic of Ireland has a land area of 194 km2, and the United Kingdom has a land area of 70,282 km2. According to the Isle of Man Government, the Isle of Man has a land area of 244,111 km2.
