Hidra (lat. Hydra) je najveće od modernih 88 i jedno od originalnih 48 Ptolemejevih sazvežđa. Njegov južni kraj se graniči sa Vagom i Kentaurom, a severni kraj sa Rakom.[1] Uvršteno je među 48 sazvežđa koje je naveo astronom iz 2. veka Ptolomej. Hidra se obično predstavljena kao vodena zmija, i prostire se na nebeskom ekvatoru.
Istorija i mitologija

[uredi | uredi izvor]Grčko sazvežđe Hidre je adaptacija vavilonskog sazvežđa: MUL.APIN uključuje sazvežđe „zmije“ (MUL.DINGIR.MUŠ) koje labavo odgovara Hidri. To je jedno od dva vavilonska sazvežđa „zmije“ (drugo je poreklo grčke Zmije), mitološki hibrid zmije, lava i ptice.[2]
Oblik Hidre podseća na zmiju koja se uvija i kao takva se pojavljuje u nekim grčkim mitovima. Jedan mit je povezuje sa vodenom zmijom koju je vrana poslužila Apolonu u čaši kada je poslata da donese vodu; Apolon je prozreo prevaru, i ljutito bacio vranu, čašu i zmiju u nebo. Takođe se povezuje sa čudovištem Hidrom, sa svojim mnogobrojnim glavama, koje je ubio Herkul, predstavljenim u drugom sazvežđu.[3] Prema legendi, ako bi jedna od Hidrinih glava bila odsečena, na njenom mestu bi izrasle još dve. Međutim, Herkulov nećak, Jolaj, spalio je vratove bakljom kako bi sprečio njihov ponovni rast i tako omogućio Herkulu da savlada Hidru.[4]
